Dennis M. Crone, 57 FREEPORT - Dennis Marvin Crone, 57, a lifelong Freeport resident, while home on January 17, 2015, peacefully left the bounds of Earth to take the hand of God, after a valiant but Sisyphean seven month fight against cancer. Dennis was born in Portland on August 20, 1957, and grew up on the family farm in Freeport, Maine, and lived most of his life on the same land that generations of ancestors have called home. Dennis graduated from Freeport HS in 1975, and became a self- taught carpenter and builder by trade. His craftsmanship will still stand on through time, from Penobscot to Portland. He was talented with anything he touched, and could fix it all, always having an ambitious and never-ending list of projects to do. Growing up on a farm, Dennis discovered his natural passion for gardening and growing, which he passed along to both his sons. His large organic vegetable garden was annually filled with 12 foot tall corn, tomatoes and sunflowers, among many crops. There were always wheelbarrows filled with extra vegetables he gave away to any and all. Most recently he enjoyed his garlic, sunflowers, and his free range chickens. He also loved going to the ocean beaches, all of the outdoors, including boating, fishing, snowmobiling, hunting for antique bottles long buried and lost, hiking, camping, and the starry night sky. He was fascinated by astronomy, learning as he went and sharing a sight through his telescope with his children. Dennis was kind and thoughtful, thoroughly generous with his time or a helping hand to anyone who needed it, and consistently modest in character. He always gave more for others than he did for himself. Cancer took his life when he was much too young, and had too much left to do. Dennis was predeceased by his father Marvin in 2000, and best canine pal George in 2014. He is survived by his wife, Charmaine (Morin) Crone, his two sons, Aaron of Richmond and Phillip of Lisbon Falls, from his first marriage (Susan Doucette), step-daughter Jennifer Dunning of Lewiston, mother Grace (Noyes) Crone of Freeport, mother-in-law Lydia Crone of South Freeport, his siblings and their spouses: Gary Crone (Tracy Brooks) of Freeport, Diane (Peter Lee) of Mount Vernon, Gail (Marty Daigle) of Yarmouth, Joyce (Michael Breslosky) of Shenandoah, PA, 10 nephews, 1 niece, 11 great-nephews & nieces, many close cousins, and Reid his dog. He will always be remembered by his loving family and friends. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Contributions are welcomed for a memorial garden to be built in Dennis's honor.
